Suicide is a major public health issue. It is the 11th leading cause of death in Canada and, alarmingly, the 3rd leading cause of death for lawyers. All of us in the legal community, and our friends and families, have been affected personally from or have colleagues who are experiencing depression, substance abuse, anxiety all of which are markers for increased suicide risk. At this CPD we will talk about suicide and its prevention, risks and protective factors. We will also talk about not being a bystander: how to tell if a colleague is struggling and what you can do and where you can turn to for help.
