Public Sector Lawyers’ Forum Report 2013-2014

  • July 22, 2014

In April 2014, the Public Sector Lawyers’ Forum (“PSLF”) co-hosted a well-attended session with the CCCA on “A Review and Best Practices in Procurement Processes”. Local experts Julie Frederickson of Manitoba Justice – Civil Legal Services and recently retired lawyer from the same department, Eleanor Andres, provided their insight on the many issues flowing from the use of different procurement processes within the government/public sector.

The PSLF also hosted two pan-Canadian brownbag teleconferences through the CBA:

  1. On March 24, 2014, the PSLF hosted a brown bag teleconference which provided an overview of the principles relating to Crown-Aboriginal consultation. The program was led by Gord Hannon, General Counsel and Team Leader, Aboriginal and Natural Resources Law Team with Manitoba Justice, Civil Legal Services.
  2. On June 25, 2014, the PSLF is hosting a session entitled “Insights on Public Sector Leadership” with prominent speaker Donna J. Miller, Q.C., Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy AG of Manitoba. Ms. Miller’s extensive experience within the public sector and her ideas about leadership will be nationally broadcast by webinar.

On a monthly basis, the Section executive attend national meetings by teleconference to discuss access to justice, to brainstorm professional development programs specific to the public sector, and to share ideas with members of the Bar from other provinces in an effort to promote the interests and goals of lawyers in all levels of government.

Respectfully submitted,
