The objective of Day Two of the Transcending the Noise Summit is to educate attendees about health care and access to care issues facing transgender individuals. Dr. Trepel will present on typical societal questions, capacity and age of consent, trans kids and teens in experiences at school and bullying from peers, teachers, school systems, families and religion. Dr. Trepel’s discussion will include references to Canadian studies and resources on transgender students including: “Being Safe Being Me Survey” and “Supporting Transgender Students Manual in 2017”. Dr. Buchel will discuss trans adults including the current model of care and barriers to care, as well as the need to educate more primary care doctors on trans specific care through CMEs and the Role of Klinic. The discussion will be supported by other panelists including Allison Fenske and Nicole Naussbaum who will add perspectives from their experiences in legal advocacy for clients as they navigate the issues identified by the physicians.
