Child & Youth Law
The Child and Youth Law Section puts the rights and interests of Manitoba’s children and youth first and believes the practice of law should positively impact their welfare. This requires understanding the unique needs and circumstances of Manitoba children and youth stemming from cultural, sociological, psychological and economic factors.
Section members strive to improve the profession’s capacity to serve the needs of children through professional development that explores practical and ethical issues including:
- Advising and taking instructions from children with disabilities and mental health disorders
- Examining children’s access to justice
- Educating the bar about children’s rights impact assessments
- Providing a dedicated voice for children and youth within the MBA on child and youth issues
