Child & Youth Law

The practice of law should have a positive impact on the welfare of Manitoba's children and youth in the child protection and criminal justice system. Members of this Section strive to improve the profession’s capacity to serve the needs of children by way of providing continuing professional development that explores cultural competencies and practical and ethical issues in the criminal and child protection context, including advising and taking instructions from children and children with disabilities and mental health disorders; examining children’s access to justice; educating the bar about children’s rights and differences in the way the law treats or should treat children; educating the bar about the TRC’s Calls to Action and advocating for their implementation and providing a dedicated voice for children and youth within the MBA on child and youth issues.
