Equality
The Equality Section works towards substantive equality within the legal system and legal profession, in particular on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national or ethnic origin, religion, language, age or disability.
The Section aims to:
- Promote awareness of the need for substantive equality (equity), inclusion and accountability within the legal profession and legal system;
- Develop resources to assist the legal profession in remedying discrimination and achieving substantive equality, inclusion and accountability within the profession and legal system;
- Develop resources to support members of equity groups within the legal profession and to promote representation and inclusion of members of equity groups within the legal profession;
- Monitor the status of substantive equality, inclusion and accountability within the legal profession;
- Promote reconciliation with Indigenous peoples on the part of the legal profession.
