Picasso at the Lapin Agile (2021)

Once again we have reason to celebrate a fantastic partnership that has evolved between the Manitoba Bar Association (MBA) and the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (RMTC). Each year, a cast made up entirely of volunteer lawyers, law students, judges, and other member of the legal community devote their time and energy to put their dramatic skills on display in a spectacular show.
This year’s production, Picasso at the Lapin Agile was the 28th co-production between the RMTC and the MBA and first on-line production.
Auditions for this production were originally held in October 2019 and shortly thereafter the selected cast started to prepare for the scheduled opening on May 6, 2020. Although the production did not open in May of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the efforts of the RMTC has made it possible for the show to go on.
Although I am seriously underqualified to provide a reputable review of theatre, I can say that the performance was highly entertaining. Each actor had their moment to shine and put on energetic and fantastic performances.
On behalf of the MBA, I would like to thank the cast and crew for their tremendous contribution toward the success of this partnership. It is because of your incredible volunteer efforts that we are able to raise funds for the RMTC and showcase one of the ways the legal profession gives back to the community. To date, the MBA has raised over $1.1 million dollars for the Royal MTC.
I would also like to thank the Director, Michelle Boulet, the Stage Manager, Chuck McEwen, the staff of the RMTC, the Lawyers Play Committee members, and the featuring sponsors, PWC, Lawton Partners, Jones & Company, Relish and WOW!. Without the support and efforts of all these people, the show may not have gone on.
Finally, thanks to all of those who attended the online reading and made a donation to support both the MBA and the RMTC.
