The MBA CCCA Section was very active this year. Regular members of the Section include in‐house counsel employed by business enterprises, not-for-profit organizations, and municipal and government bodies, as well as associate members from the private bar.

The section organized a panel for the 2014 Mid-Winter Conference on Accommodation and Privacy Issues. The panelists were Shannon Carson, Jeff Palamar, Denny Kells with Adrian Frost acting as moderator. The session was well attended and received very positive feedback in the evaluations submitted.

The Administrative Law Section Executive consists of: Sarah Hill, Chair (Manitoba Municipal Government), Matthew Maruca, (Doctors Manitoba) and Shereese Qually, Secretary/Treasurer (Taylor McCaffrey LLP)

October 25 - 26, 2013 - I attended CBA National Wills, Estates and Trusts in Ottawa.

In April 2014, the Public Sector Lawyers’ Forum (“PSLF”) co-hosted a well-attended session with the CCCA on “A Review and Best Practices in Procurement Processes”. Local experts Julie Frederickson of Manitoba Justice – Civil Legal Services and recently retired lawyer from the same department, Eleanor Andres, provided their insight on the many issues flowing from the use of different procurement processes within the government/public sector.

This report describes the activities of the Manitoba Business Law Section from September, 2013 to June, 2014.

On June 25, 2013, the Section hosted a presentation for its members and the Business Law Section to explain the impact of the Cape Town Convention and demonstrate the International Registry procedures.

The Equality Issues Section works toward equality within the legal system and legal profession, in particular on the basis of sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, age or disability.

Our meetings from September 1, 2013 - May 30, 2014

The first educational session for the Environmental Law Section held in December was actually a joint session with the Aboriginal Law Section. Gord Hannon came and spoke about the Connection between Environmental Assessment and Aboriginal Consultation.
