This year, the Section executive (Co‐Chairs Melanie Bueckert and Darla Rettie, Vice‐Chair Cynthia Lau and Member‐at‐Large Catherine Skinner) planned and offered several sessions targeting various practice areas across the public and private bar. 

The International Law Section of the Manitoba Bar Association held two meetings in 2012‐2013.

 Sofia Mirza, became Chair of the Immigration Section on September 1, 2012.  Paul Hesse has moved into the Past Chair position.  

The big environmental news in Manitoba for this year (2012/2013) was the introduction by the Province of the new all encompassing environment strategy which was embodied in the policy paper called Tomorrow Now Manitoba’s Green Plan.

It was in many respects business as usual for our Section this year, carrying on our work to advance the public interest in access to information.  As usual, a lot of our work involved activities and initiatives with the National Section which hosts monthly conference calls and reports from those conference calls were circulated to Section members

The Manitoba Family Law Section presented or co‐presented a number of educational programs in the past year.  Though most were localized to issues of interest to Manitoba practitioners, our March program attracted international speakers and was of more national application. 

The Family Law Subsection of the Manitoba Bar Association presented or co‐presented a number of educational and social programs over the past year

During the 2013 - 2014 term (September 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014) the Civil Litigation Section sponsored three professional development seminars.

This series of seminars were jointly presented with the Law Society of Manitoba.  Each seminar was a two‐hour in‐person session and featured experts from the RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service.
