The Women Lawyers' Forum Section develops programs and initiatives for women in the legal profession in Manitoba. The Forum provides a platform to support the advancement of women in law by providing networking, mentoring and resource-sharing opportunities. We offer professional and personal development programs to help women enhance their careers. Our initiatives are designed to develop professional confidence for female law students and women who work in private practice, public service, as in-house counsel or as community leaders. Given the high rate of attrition of women from the practice of law, our mandate is also to explore and develop ways to reverse this trend and to enhance the stature, influence and advancement of women in law.
Women Lawyers Judicial Information Program
The Women Lawyers' Forum Section, with the cooperation of women judges from all levels of court in Manitoba, has initiated a program for the benefit of women in the profession who are considering applying to be a judge. A list has been compiled of women judges who are willing to speak confidentially with women lawyers about matters such as the application process, the demands of the position and the life of a judge. Once a lawyer receives the list she will have the option of choosing the names of two or three judges with whom she would like to speak and contacting them.
