Because the practice of air and transportation law in Manitoba has diminished significantly since the economic de‐regulation of most modes of transport, the Transportation Law Section of the Manitoba Bar Association has been largely dormant.  However, the Chair remains available as a resource in the event that issues or opportunities arise that the MBA wants to consider becoming involved in.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Section Report 2011‐2012

The ADR Section has had a transitional year.  Audra Bayer and Kelli Potter were elected as Co‐Chairs of the Section.  Kelli is currently expecting and on leave.  Audra has accepted a position in Kelowna and is leaving the Province effective August 1, 2012.  A notice has gone out to the membership requesting nominations for executive positions.

In November 2011, the Health Law Section had an excellent presentation by the then provincial Ombudsman, Irene Hamilton and by Gail Perry, Sr. Legislative and Policy Analyst, Manitoba Ombudsman.  They gave a very informative session with respect to developments in privacy and access legislation specific to Manitoba but also with respect to the role and powers of the Ombudsman’s Office

It was in many respects business as usual for our Section this year, carrying on our work to advance the public interest in access to information.  As usual, a lot of our work involved activities and initiatives with the National Section which hosts monthly conference calls and reports from those conference calls were circulated to Section members.
